What is counted as a device?
We count all the devices that are managed from Cumulocity including child devices. You configure them from Cumulocity, upgrade their software, manage their availability and so forth.
For example, assume you take a Raspberry Pi and connect a bunch of sensors to it, you would have one device regardless of the number of sensors. If you connect ten smart meters connected through a Wi-Fi gateway, and you manage both the Wi-Fi gateway and the smart meters from Cumulocity, you would have eleven devices. The number of devices is displayed on the administration home page.
What is a request?
A request is an invocation of Cumulocity through its API. Only requests from devices are counted.
The number of requests accumulated this month is shown on the administration home page. Note that the request allowance is pooled. Ten devices include 50,000 requests regardless whether one device just sends 100 requests and another sends 10,000 requests.
What if I need more requests?
Additional requests are €1 per 100,000 requests per month.
What is storage?
Cumulocity stores inventory, measurements, alarms, audit logs, events and operations. The total storage space required to store this data is used for billing. The current storage space is shown on the administration home page.
For techies: The storage space in our backend is in general smaller than the text that you get over the normal REST APIs.
What if I need more storage?
Additional storage is €1 per 100 MB storage per month.
Do you have an example?
Certainly, here you go:
Lets assume you want to control your energy usage by connecting smart meters to Cumulocity.
The smart meter sends a reading of 500 bytes every hour and data is kept for one year. This results for one meter is at most
- 720 requests per month (30 days x 24 hours) and
- 4.3 MB of data per year (12 months x 720 readings x 500 bytes)
The cost per meter per month is €3, as one meter device includes up to 5,000 requests per month and 50MB storage.
For 100 meters that send data at 12 times an hour multiply the results above by 100 x 12 = 1,200 to get at most
- 864,000 requests per month, of which 500,000 requests are covered by the device fee
- 5,184 MB of data per year, of which 5,000 MB are covered by the device fee
So the overall cost for 100 meters is €381 per month (€300 for meters + €4 for 364,000 additional requests + €2 for 184 MB additional data storage + €150 for platform - €75 for first 25 meters).
If you want to know where you are this month, just click on "Administration" in the App Switcher. The home page there counts your usage.
How does the trial work?
When you sign up for the free trial, you will get immediate access to Cumulocity. The trial runs 30 days. After 30 days, the trial will turn into a billed subscription (preserving all data and configuration that you made so far).
We will remind you by email a few days before the trial ends. You can cancel your trial or your subscription any time.
How can I cancel my trial or my subscription?
You can unsubscribe any time by contacting support or using the form below.
Note that the support fee of € 150 is charged in advance for the month and not refunded when using only a part of the month.
How will I get billed?
Your invoice will be sent at the beginning of each month by email, using the email address and company information that you provided when signing up.
It will be computed using the number of devices, traffic and storage space used until the end of the previous month and the platform fee. The payment terms are outlined here.
What payment options are there?
You can pay by full bank transfer or through PayPal. Details are on the invoice.
What support do I get?
Cumulocity ensures that you have the necessary helpdesk support to make your corporate initial IoT projects a success whether they are R&D investigations, educational programmes, product innovation initiatives or many, many more.
It also allows your platform to benefit from Cumulocity’s continuous stream of updates for new features, usability enhancements and invisible performance improvements. You have immediate access to these developments.
All customers receive business level support as outlined in our service level agreement. For enterprise level support, contact us.
Are there discounts available?
Sure! We offer 15% discount on annual pre-payment. You will also get a discount for a larger number of accounts subscribed through us (see below). And finally, there is also the option of using the Enterprise or Service Provider plan if you have high traffic loads or high storage requirements. Contact us for more details.
How can I offer services to my enterprise customers through Cumulocity?
There are two alternatives for you:
- You can simply subscribe to one "Standard" plan for each customer. This would give each customer a separate, dedicated space so that your customers would not be able to see each other's data.
- Or you can subscribe to the “Enterprise" plan and manage your customers entirely yourself.
What is included in the Cumulocity storage and why is this different from ‘pure’ cloud storage?
Cumulocity is more than a file sharing or archiving system. In contrast to normal file sharing services, Cumulocity offers the following advantages:
- The data that you store in Cumulocity is stored on high performance storage systems (using SSD) with guaranteed I/O performance so that you can rapidly retrieve it. Compared to storage of data in hard disks, SSD storage with guaranteed performance is multiple times more expensive.
- It is replicated so that your data is always available even in case some servers fail. Data you write is immediately copied to another disk, where it is available in case the primary server or disk fails. This doubles the required storage space.
- It is indexed, so that you can efficiently visualize your data. For example, measurement data is indexed in multiple dimensions to quickly access data of a certain time period or a certain device. These indexes take up additional storage space.
- The data is backed up every day.
This is illustrated in the image below. Typical storage services deal mainly with the "backup" and "archiving" part.
Why is the storage space used greater than the mobile data traffic?
See the previous question -- Cumulocity does more than just storing data as is. The mechanism to send data to Cumulocity is optimized to reduce data traffic as much as possible. The mechanism to store data in Cumulocity is optimized to retrieve data as fast as possible and store the data as safely as possible. For example, "replication" means that all data is duplicated, so space grows by a factor of two. Note that the amount of space used in Cumulocity is the total space in use, not hte space added in the previous month. You can control the storage duration using Cumulocity's retention feature.
I accidentally lost data. Do you have a backup?
Sure we have! Cumulocity runs a daily full backup of your data after midnight CET and keeps it for thirty days. If you accidentally deleted something, we can restore your account from the backup.
Please note that the standard restore service is a full restore. For example, if you ask us to restore today's backup, all your historic data until the backup time will be back, but you will loose the data collected after the backup.
The standard restore service costs €800 and does not include merge of backup and current data, or restore of individual devices. If you need a more extensive service, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with the details.
